Ape Conservation Effort (ACE) is an all-volunteer, Georgia-based non-profit that works to save the four great ape species from extinction.

Together we can save the Great Apes! We hope you will be part of this year's Giving Tuesday on December 2nd! Thanks to a generous donor, every donation made during this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar up to the amount of $1000. That means, your $20 donation will be a $40 donation, your $50 support will turn into $100, and so on! What a great way to make your dollars count!!! Together we can save the great apes!

ACE was founded in 2006 by keepers and volunteers from Zoo Atlanta and since then we have raised over $317,000 for great ape conservation.

All four great ape species (gorilla, orangutan, bonobo, and chimpanzee) are endangered or critically endangered. Major threats are habitat loss, illegal wildlife trade, and poaching for bushmeat. These animals are intelligent and sentient beings and their survival depends on us! They need our help!

Effective conservation needs direct and around the clock protection in the animals' natural habitats. Our funds support on-the-ground organizations in Africa and southeast Asia to keep day-to-day operations running especially through tough times, including the recent pandemic, flooding, and mudslides.

Below are a few testimonials of how our funds were used in the past year: You can find more information on our website and read the thank you letters in full in our newsletters. https://apeconservationeffort.org/

Funds raised from Bingo for Bonobos in 2024:

"Thank you so much for your generous gift on 11/9/24 of $1,530 to the Bonobo Conservation Initiative BCI. With your help, we are protecting the world's second largest rainforest and providing a safe haven for bonobos."

Sally Jewell Coxe, President BCI

Devastating landslide at Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP) November 2024

"Thank you so much for the continued support of ACE. We'll allocate $3,700 in full to SOCP. The situation at SOCP is challenging but we'll get through it...".

Richard Zimmerman, Executive Director Orangutan Outreach

Lola ya Bonobo May 9, 2025:

"When historic flooding struck Kinshasa and swept into Lola ya Bonobo, your quick response made all the difference. Because of your attention and generosity, we've been able to protect the bonobos and begin rebuilding stronger than ever."

Ariel Rogers, Executive Director Friends of Bonobos

We hope you will join us in the effort to protect these incredible apes and their homelands from further encroachment.  You will be helping in the vital work of:

  • rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned great apes, who arrive at nonprofit centers completely traumatized. If orphaned as an infant, they require a surrogate mother 24 hours a day to stay alive.
  • rescue and rehabilitation of those held in very unhealthy restricted spaces due to the pet trade.  They will need medical intervention and training to learn skills required to survive in the wild.
  • supporting researchers as they strive to learn more about the great apes.
  • providing necessary supplies for trackers who follow great ape groups day in and day out in order to keep them and their forest safe.
  • underwriting veterinary emergency care in the field and care at the rehab centers.
  • creating partnerships with local governments to maintain and protect preserved carbon-rich land, important to the climate of our planet, from human encroachment.
  • providing schools, medical care, and new income strategies for the people of the neighboring communities.

The on-the-ground organizations we support have managed to continue their operations during very difficult times, including the recent pandemic years, due to their great commitment to their conservation missions.  We and they, and the great apes, can surely use your support now.

Donate today to Ape Conservation Effort, receive a dollar for dollar match up to $1,000, and join us as we support those on the ground safeguarding the wellbeing of great apes living naturally today.
