Blue Heron Lake Nature Conservancy Inc

A nonprofit organization

The Blue Heron Lake Nature Conservancy preserves in perpetuity its wetlands & wildlife, provides environmental education, & promotes a program of ecotherapy through spiritual respite activities.

The Blue Heron Lake Nature Conservancy, Inc. is a Georgia nonprofit corporation with federal tax-exempt (501c3) status. It is located off Highway #341 in the historic Myrtle community of Peach County between the towns of Fort Valley and Perry. The Conservancy operates as a wildlife sanctuary, with limited public access for the purposes of environmental education and spiritual respite.

This is not a public park or recreational facility, nor is it a place to come and use as a playground to let off steam.  Rather, it is like a living museum with emphasis on the quiet appreciation of nature and respect for all living things.  We do not disturb the plants and wildlife in their own home.

The BHLNC is a sanctuary not only for the plants and wildlife that live on the property, but also for the people in the community who appreciate and choose to take advantage of such a refuge.

The Conservancy is in the process of joining with the “Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs” and becoming one of their certified trails.  To do this, we need to bring our trails up to their standards.  (Most immediately we need to remove downed trees, repair bridges, install trail signs, and place gravel in the parking areas).

The trails will be open to the public, under a self-guided system aproved by the ANFT.  In addition, future plans involve having a certified trail guide in-house.

The monies raised will be used for trail maintenance and membership  fees in the ANFT.
