Safe and healthy environment for children to grow and learn.

The Central Georgia Council is one of the largest councils in Georgia geographically, serving 24 counties of middle Georgia. Over 2,000 youth and adult participants are served each year in programs from kindergarten through high school. These youth and young adults learn character-building, life/survival skills, and career-readiness education.

Who are we?

BSA programs are divided by age and activity for boys, girls, young men and young women kindergarten through age 20.

The Value of Scouting: Discovery is at the heart of Scouting. We believe every adventure helps us uncover a little more about ourselves. We build the foundations for humility and compassion—strengthening character through actions—to prepare youth for a lifetime of leadership.

Prepared. For Life: Scouting teaches youth to confront any challenge with whole hearts and clear minds—to live their lives without regret, never back down, and do their very best!

Become Your Best Self: Through fun yet challenging physical and mental activities, Scouting encourages personal growth by teaching youth how to set goals and achieve them with determination.

Diversity: The BSA promotes a culture where youth, volunteers, and employees feel a sense of belonging—where every person feels respected and valued. We welcome families of all backgrounds to help prepare young people to serve as successful members and leaders of our nation’s diverse communities.

Fun for the Whole Family: Scouting is something the whole family can experience together. We designed our program so that anyone—brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers—can have fun and make an impact!

What we do?

FINANCIAL LITERACY: Delivered through learning opportunities each scout has an opportunity to earn merit badges dedicated to financial literacy; Personal Management, Entrepreneurship, and American Business just to name a few. In fact, the National Endowment for Financial Education partnered with BSA in creating the Personal Management Merit Badge booklet.

LEADERSHIP & MENTORING: The BSA is a youth led, youth run organization, but the youth must be trained to be leaders. Scouting’s most important responsibilities is to provide the direction, coaching, and training that empowers youth the skills they will need to lead.

Mentoring is the act of providing guidance, advice, and peer support to assist individual growth. In Scouting this concept can apply across all the youth sections as well as to all levels of adults in Scouting. Mentoring develops with every leadership position and requirement. At first, we start leading others as a mentee under the direction of someone with experience. As we gain experience, we become the mentor to those who are just beginning their Scouting journeys.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: The Workforce Development program is for 6th grade - 20 years old. This program matches career interests of participants with businesses and organizations who in turn provide a hands-on interactive experience.

How can the community help?

While joining Scouting can be a great opportunity for youth, there is a cost to for the program. Community support help us offset expenses such as youth joining fees, membership fees, uniforms, handbooks, camping opportunities, activities, and out-of-school nutrition. This year, we seek to offset the similar program expenses for needy families. The average cost to mentor a youth a year is $1,000 annually.
