Clubhouses are intentional communities that are created to help members build real life skills that are transferable in their everyday lives and job market. The hallmark of the Clubhouse is the Work-Ordered-Day designed to parallel a "typical” working day which can be described as an eight-hour day, Monday through Friday. As members come into the Clubhouse each day, they are immediately engaged in running the Clubhouse, which could be anything from answering the phone, cooking or serving a meal, maintenance, preparing newsletters and mailings, or doing community presentations. Members receive “continuity of care” tailored to their specific needs in a community-based setting. Clubhouses promote a sense of growth and independence which can open many opportunities.

The Clubhouse Model is a radically different way of working in the field of community mental health. Clubhouses are inclusive programs that are centered around members and staff working side-by-side running the day-to-day operations of the program while at the same time, learning valuable, transferable skills that are needed to be successful in reaching their goals. Unlike traditional mental health programs, members and staff in the Clubhouse community make it a priority to build strong and meaningful relationships. This has proven to be one of the most important tools in allowing someone with mental illness to feel secure in their recovery.

Clubhouse Atlanta serves as a restorative environment for people who have had their lives drastically disrupted and need the support of others. We are an inviting place for adults living with a mental health condition that gives our members the dignity, respect, and the courage to reach their potential as valued and contributing members of their communities.

Clubhouse Atlanta provides the space and support structure an individual requires to recover, perhaps come to terms with their illness, make sense of their world, and build their self-confidence.   Clubhouse members share in creating successes for their community, while getting the necessary help and support to achieve individual success and satisfaction. A Clubhouse is much more than a program or a social service – it is a community of people who are working together toward common goals.
