During the last quarter of 2022 and the first three quarters of 2023, we accepted 140 cats and kittens into our program andwere able to find new, loving ‘fur’ever homes for 111 (79.3%) of them. This is incredible and we have you to thank! These cats and kittens not only have a place to call home, but people who will love them for the rest of their lives. You are probably one of those loving homes!!

While COVID cases came down quite a bit in 2022-2023, we decided to change our adoption protocols and suspended our regularly scheduled meet-and-greets. We worked with applicants whose applications were approved by our Adoption Committee by scheduling an adoption appointment for them--and that worked out well for everyone. Also, a majority of our special events for 2023 were canceled, but we were able to continue to rescue cats and kittens from animal control, owner surrenders, and through CFA’s Breeder Assistance-Breeder Rescue program. Because our meet-and-greet and special events were not only a way to showcase our kitties but also resulted in signification donations, we are now in need of funds to help us care for our current and incoming rescue kitties. We need your financial support so that we can continue to rescue cats and kittens and provide them with the five-star care they deserve. Here are just a few of our rescue stories from the past year:

From October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023, FFRS took in a total of 46 Persians and Himalayans through CFA’s Breeder Assistance-Breeder Rescue program and were also presented with 17 born in our care by a few of those original intakes.

FFRS was recently contacted by a repatriate who asked if we would be interested in partnering with a rescue in Doha, Qatar and we agreed to accept three of their kittens. That rescue works closely with repatriates who are involved with their rescue. When one of the repatriates heads back home to the United States, they chaperone the cats on their long flight so the cats can find their ‘purr’manent homes here in the USA.

We also took in cats and kittens from local animal control facilities in during that period. Many have already been adopted and there are many others that are still waiting for their “fur-ever” homes.

Special Needs Kitties are always a challenge, and we had several:

WINKY was pulled from a local animal control facility after we saw her – all alone in a cage, not being able to see. We couldn't let her sit there not knowing her fate. We pulled her, immediately got her to the vet, then took her to Animal Eye Specialist in Marietta. Unfortunately, WINKY had to have her left eye removed and we also learned that a gland in WINKY's right eye was not providing the proper fluid to keep the eye healthy. Winky stole the hearts of everyone at Animal Eye Specialist, including one of the staff members who, much to our excitement, adopted WINKY!

Each and every one of us live day-to-day and never know what the future will hold for us. TEDDY, a 17 year old Chinchilla Persian (that’s 87 years in human years), was, unfortunately, surrendered to a local animal control facility after his owner died. We couldn’t allow TEDDY to spend the rest of his days confined in a cage at animal control, so we accepted TEDDY in our care. TEDDY was diagnosed by our veterinarian with arthritis and is taking Solensia (at a cost of $68 per month) in his fospice (feline slang for “foster hospice”) home where he will continue to live being loved and comforted as much as possible until it is his time to cross the Rainbow Bridge.

We accepted three Sphynx into our care – MOCHA BEAN, VENUS, and NOVA. Being high maintenance cats, we want to send a big shout out to our Sphynx savvy veterinarian, Dr. Carrie Friedewald, who helped us care for them. One will be enjoying the warmth and sunshine of Florida and the remaining two were adopted by an FFRS previous Sphynx adopter – giving each of those three Nekkid kids wonderful homes!

All of our cats go to their foster or new homes fully vetted, which includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines, FIV/FeLV tested, dewormed, microchipped, and treated with flea preventative. Our Adoption Counselors take time to review eachapplication for the best fit for the cat and the new family. Rescue is not easy, but it is rewarding to our volunteers – and we are an all-volunteer group.

Please consider making a special gift today to help us continue providing a safe, secure, and loving refuge for these cats as we help them find their ‘fur’ever homes. Every gift helps us continue our efforts to provide shelter, food, en- richment, and veterinary care for each cat or kitten that becomes one of our Fancy Felines.
