ABOUT THE GABWA FOUNDATION’S PHILANTHROPY

For the past eighteen years, the GABWA Foundation has awarded over $450,000.00 in scholarships to deserving Georgia black female law students. These scholarships provide resources to deserving law students during a time of need.  We are proud that our GABWA Foundation Scholarship recipients go on to become GABWA Presidents, law firm partners, judges, and leaders in the legal field.

Moreover, funds donated to the GABWA Foundation not only impact the lives of deserving black female law students through the Scholarship Program, but also help fund the GABWA Foundation’s Sister2Sister Mentoring Program® (“Sister2Sister®”), the Civil Pro Bono Wills Project (“Wills Project”), and the Women’s Health Fair Project.

  • Sister2Sister® is an award-winning academy for at-risk teen girls, comprised of adult mentoring and bi-monthly workshops/trainings. The workshops include topics such as the importance of self-worth, practical ways to avoid negative peer pressure, health education, and public speaking. Since its inception in 2000, the program has served over 1,000 young ladies, many of whom have risen above their circumstances to attend and graduate from college. The only one of its kind in Fulton County and 1 of 2 in DeKalb County, Sister2Sister® introduces its participants to the promise that their lives hold, if they make positive choices such as continuing their education and developing behaviors that will prevent future contact with the criminal justice system.
  • The Wills Project serves Georgia residents suffering from life-threatening illnesses and seniors with advanced health directives and wills. The Wills project has provided over 200 wills to clients.
  • The GABWA Foundation also partners with the Center for Black Women’s Wellness to provide health services to Atlanta’s Mechanicsville community through an Annual Women’s Health Fair. All the health services, screenings, food, and educational materials are provided completely free.
