The Georgia Tennis Foundation (GTF) was founded in 1986. Its mission is to grow and enhance tennis in the state of Georgia by providing philanthropic community tennis programs with an emphasis on youth development under the Jack Waters Tennis Serves initiative and by preserving the history of tennis in Georgia. The Georgia Tennis Foundation provides funds to both the community and to individuals. It serves all races, genders and economic groups in the state of Georgia.
The GTF recognizes the value of tennis as a healthy sport that can open many doors for those who learn the game of tennis. Since 1986, the Georgia Tennis Foundation has provided community programs for disadvantaged youth through Joe Dorn First Serve to introduce children to the game of tennis. The Georgia Tennis Foundation has also served the wheelchair tennis community through financial support to tournaments and programs as requested in the state of Georgia.
Through Ned Neely Second Serve, the GTF provides financial assistance for tournament expenses and travel to talented junior tennis players in need, as well as to outstanding tennis players who aspire to play on the ATP or WTA tour to help coaching and tournament travel. In addition, scholarship monies are provided to high school seniors who have demonstrated excellence in both tennis, as well as academics.
While focusing much of its resources on Georgia’s youth, the GTF also recognizes the attributes of outstanding tennis players and/or administrators who have significantly contributed to the growth of tennis in the state through their induction into the Georgia Tennis Hall of Fame. Georgia has a long and proud tennis history, and the GTF is proud to have individuals such as legendary coach Dan Magill, Bitsy Grant, Tom Gorman, and Mikael Pernfors.
