Len Foote Hike Inn

is a sustainably designed Georgia State Park facility nestled in Chattahoochee National Forest in the north Georgia mountains. Part of Amicalola Falls State Park, the Hike Inn is accessible only by a five-mile hike.  A unique and fun destination for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike we offer warm, welcoming hospitality in a beautiful wilderness setting.

~  a place where everyone belongs  ~

The Hike Inn is a unique backcountry retreat and learning resource center inspiring a love for hiking, nature, environmental stewardship and connecting with friends and family in beautiful 'unplugged' surroundings.  With a mission to protect Georgia's natural resources through education and recreation, our goal is to make experiencing nature easy.

The Hike Inn is non-profit and although it is owned by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and is part of the state park system, the Inn receives no state funding.   Our youth education program relies directly on supplemental funding from grants, individual donations, working with partner organizations like the Georgia Appalachian Trail Club and volunteer support.

The Hike Inn Outside School program hosts school and youth organizations for overnight educational trips to the Inn.

On the trail,  students may learn about the history of the Appalachian Trail and public lands,  Leave No Trace Principles, natural history and ecological processes of the Southern Appalachian forests.

During time at the Inn, the group participates with hands on learning of green building and sustainability practices, focusing on solar energy generation, energy conservation, water conservation with composting toilets, rain barrels and native gardens, reducing food waste and vermiculture composting.

The Outside School’s goal is to guide youth to the understanding of natural systems, human systems, and the relations between them using direct investigation and hands-on application opportunities while also promoting the conservation of resources.

Time outdoors has been linked to improvement in youth health and well-being, as well as environmental attitudes and intentions- we simply want to get more kids outside on the trail!

You can help us to be a bridge for students to find their passion for hiking, the outdoors and conservation.

Each year hundred of students participate in an unforgettable learning experience. Through community support and individual donations, we are able to provide a reduced rate for schools and youth organizations  that might not ordinarily be able to make a trip to the Hike Inn.  By funding a night’s stay for a student or a teacher, you provide an opportunity for a child to connect with nature and become invested in environmental stewardship.

Your gift will help us reach out to more of Georgia’s youth and support our stewards of tomorrow.

Thank you for your donation!
