Our Mission
The Junior League of DeKalb County, Inc. (JLD) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Our Impact the DeKalb County Community
Since 1934, JLD has been a positive force in DeKalb County. We have identified and met many needs in the community. Our legacy includes many well-known non-profits and charitable organizations, such as the Callanwolde Guild, Friends of Fernbank, DeKalb Rape Crisis Center, and International Women's House. In 1980, we saved the historic Mary Gay House in Decatur from destruction and it now serves as our League headquarters, as well as a beautiful rental facility.
In 2015, the Junior League of DeKalb County adopted a new focus area – Promoting the Development of Early Reading and Language Skills. JLD has worked with partners, such as the DeKalb Summer Reading Partnership and the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, to increase the number of books in the hands of children in DeKalb County, as well as holding books drives. In 2018, JLD pioneered the DeKalb Saturday Scholar Initiative to provide extra support with reading and language skills to 3rd-5th graders at Oak View Elementary. JLD members also support organizations such as Project Transformation, Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, Clarkston Community Foodbank, The League of Women Voters, Partnership in Action for Healthy Living, and many more each year with volunteer needs.
We are proud of our many contributions to the community, but these successes can only be achieved through hard work and your generosity. Gifts to JLD provide valuable support for training, operating expenses and community programs throughout the year.
