Why MidTown Matters

Why does MidTown matter? Because it is home, home to over 23,000 Columbus residents who live in 24 neighborhoods and historic districts. It is home to hundreds of local businesses, exemplified on Wynnton Road by Aflac, with a duck that dominates its industry worldwide and, just across the street, Dinglewood Pharmacy serving the world-famous scrambled dog to its fifth generation of local families. MidTown is home to places we share as a community—Lakebottom Park, the Museum, the Library, pocket parks, connecting sidewalks, tree-lined streets and greenways. 

MidTown has character established over time. Its history dates back to the 1830s, shortly after Columbus was founded. It is a microcosm of Columbus in the heart of the city. It is diverse, in population and in use. MidTown is a patchwork quilt of neighborhoods, commerce and recreation. Its development spans almost two centuries and today MidTown is a laboratory for small-scale, incremental development, and for active transportation and the value of connected places. MidTown is an authentic community where people live, work, bicycle, walk, run or play, worship, attend school and shop. And if local character, convenience, history and a sense of community aren’t enough, consider that MidTown’s six square miles represent less than 3% of the city’s land area, yet MidTown is home to over 12% of Columbus’ population and holds over 10% of its tax base. MidTown decidedly matters to a thriving greater Columbus community. 

This year, MidTown, Inc. has been given an exciting challenge - raise $100,000 in operating funds and it will be matched by $100,000. This challenge is made possible by an anonymous donor who loves MidTown, through the Community Foundation of the Chattahoochee Valley, Inc.  Every contribution will be doubled and will go toward operating support for MidTown, Inc.
