Open Hand

A nonprofit organization

Open Hand began in 1988 when a small group of friends gathered to prepare and deliver home-cooked meals for their friends and neighbors affected by HIV/AIDS. Today, Open Hand has grown to become the largest community-based nutrition agency in the state of Georgia.

Open Hand delivers delicious, medically tailored meals and nutrition education to neighbors living with or at risk for nutrition-sensitive chronic illness. In addition to addressing hunger and food insecurity, we deliver a comprehensive approach to nutrition care. Our interventions reinforce the vital connection between informed food choices and improved health and quality of life.

With nearly 97% of Open Hand clients living 200% below the national poverty level, we play a critical role in helping to meet their food and medical needs. In fact, one-third of our clients recently reported that, if not for Open Hand, they would have no idea where their next meal would be coming from.

Food is medicine, and Open Hand clients are able to better manage their own health and prevent the onset of nutrition-related health complications with our support. We empower clients to eat healthier, live longer, and decrease the need for medical attention.

Food is love because of supporters like you. Join us as we continue to expand so we can deliver love, dignity, and nutrition to even more Georgians in dire need of our services.
