POTM - "Meeting You Where You Are"

Peace on the Move, Inc. (POTM) in Decatur, GA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2000 by Pastor Tyrone E. Barnette of the Peace Baptist Church to serve the Decatur metropolitan area.

The organization is comprised of a network of programs, to empower and equip individuals and families to move from dependency to self-sufficiency. We welcome all people and are dedicated to transforming and building better lives for individuals, families, and communities through learning and action.

POTM has an excellent reputation in the Metro-Atlanta community and is one of the area’s largest providers of social support services. One of the most recognized programs of POTM is “Feed the Need” (FTN). To date the programs have distributed more than 900,000 pounds of food to more than 100,000 families.

Programs

Feed the Need:  Through our partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and local grocery stores and food pantries, this program aims to build a bridge of hope that encourages quality of life for families and individuals by providing grocery relief and commodity supplemental food boxes. Feed The Need will further meet its vision by advocating and collaborating with hunger response agencies to help transform the lives of people and continue to promote self-sufficiency. Our Food Pantry is open two times a week (by appointment only), and we also provide a monthly Mobile Food Pantry for the community.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program: The Commodity Supplemental Food Program works to improve the health of low-income persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods. USDA distributes both food and administrative funds to participating states and Indian Tribal Organizations to operate CSFP. Missions of Benevolence: This program provides monetary aid, resources and financial education to those experiencing crisis situations. Support includes financial assistance with housing, utilities, transportation and medical costs.

Community Resource Fairs: Through our partnerships with local government and community organizations, we host free events that share positive resources to our local community. Activities include: Back to School Back Pack and School Supply Drives, Holiday Toy Drives for Struggling Families, free book drives and our annual Breast Cancer & Domestic Violence Awareness Community Expo in partnership with the DeKalb County Solicitor's Office.
