Your donations helps people like Mr. F.

The 19-year-old was referred to Ser Familia after his father, in a moment of anger, attacked him and his sister, and then fired a firearm, an incident in which fortunately no one was injured. Mr. F., born in the United States to Mexican parents, has received holistic care at Ser Familia. As a single young adult, his treatment plan was tailored to his needs. The young man has received support from the Strengthening Families and Healthy Relationships programs, counseling and constant attention and follow-up from his case manager. Through the services, Mr. F. has seen progress in positively handling his emotions, as well as needed behavior adjustments and use of new skills such as the practice of mindfulness. In addition, he points out that his relationship with his mother has grown closer and he is looking for ways to be able to support her more at home. The young man has also started working and is on track to start a short career now that he has finished high school. He does not have a direct contact with his father, but he communicates with him through relatives, as an example sending him a letter on Father's Day. This is part of his healing process. Mental Health Counseling has helped him make progress, he says. With the appropriate support, he ensures that is learning to face his challenges and to plan for the future.
