$10,000 Goal

Southern Women In Motion Foundation Inc., provides supportive housing and wraparound re-entry services to justice impacted, unhoused women. We welcome these ladies into our program by offering second chance housing, safety, hunger prevention and pivotal programs that steer towards community building and economic progress. Georgia has an incarceration rate of 968 per 100,000 people (including prisons, jails, immigration detention, and juvenile justice facilities), meaning that it locks up a higher percentage of its people than any democracy on earth. More than 10% of those coming in and out of prisons and jails are homeless within a few months proceeding and following their incarceration. We are leading our team into the criminal justice reform movement, while collaborating with other leaders, nonprofit organizations and community partners who aims toward the same mission. We support these women because we are aware of the issues of homelessness, mass incarceration, hunger and economic disparities that the justice impacted community experiences on a daily basis. One of our main components of this program is to build self sufficiency and to prevent barriers and challenges that our black and brown communities face each day. Each participant is assigned a peer-to-peer mentor to address any responses to harm that has been experienced throughout their lives.
