The face of homelessness is changing, and more people than ever are experiencing homelessness for the first time.
As affordability declines and economic inequality worsens, countless Georgians are being displaced or sacrificing to make ends meet. Housing costs continue to outpace the growth of wages, meaning that people are forces to make hard choices between essentials like paying rent, buying groceries, or covering medical bills.
Last year, Hope Atlanta served more than 6,100 clients in their journey to self-sufficiency, whether through preventative measures or responding to emergency needs. We rely on the support of generous donors to help fund the need for supporting our neighbors in need. We hope that you'll join us as a part of our supporting community.
Here are five reasons why we hope you’ll choose to support Hope Atlanta.
-
Last year, there was a 7% increase in the number of individuals experiencing homelessness in Atlanta—encompassing a 41% increase in unsheltered homelessness.
-
Atlanta has the greatest income inequality of any large U.S. city, combined with a shortage of affordable housing.
- After years of declining rates, family homelessness increased by 16%, accounting for nearly 29% of all people experiencing homelessness.
- More than half of people experiencing sheltered homelessness, and slightly less than half of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness are formally employed.
- More than 40,000 Georgia veterans live in poverty, and 664 are homeless.
-
HOPE Atlanta works 1-1 with people facing homelessness, including seniors, veterans, families, and people with disabilities, to secure stable housing and empower them to reach self-sufficiency.
The holidays are not the same without a place to call home and the comforts that come with it. But you can help!
Your gift to Hope Atlanta can help provide inspiration and positivity to our clients as we approach the end of the year. Gifts will support services like:
$25 can purchase a MARTA card so clients can attend job training or medical appointments.
$50 can provide new pots and pans for clients moving into their new apartment.
$100 can provide 10 hot meals at our Women’s Community Kitchen.
$500 can support two weeks of emergency lodging for someone in crisis.
$1,000 can lift a family out of poverty by connecting a single mom to career readiness and providing temporary childcare.
