My name is Casey Henson, owner of WarAngel Farms Rescue & Rehabilitation.
We are a 501c3 equine and farm animal rescue, specializing in saving horses and donkeys from the slaughter pipeline, though we rescue goats, cows, sheep, African tortoises, and more! We started out twenty years ago as a horse farm, but over the years God led us in the direction of being a rescue! We started having people reach out to us to rescue different animals, in which we almost always took them in. It got to the point that we could not do it on our own anymore, so we officially became a non-profit rescue! While we do rely on our social media following and volunteers to help with donations and sponsorships, we also do many activities at the farm to raise awareness, keep the farm going, and help people too! We do private tours of the farm, horseback riding lessons, ladies’ night out, and offer “artsy animal camp” all summer which is a wonderful way to get children involved. We keep each camp limited so the campers really get to experience all the animals at the farm which includes horses, donkeys, sheep, alpacas, cows, goats, tortoises, rabbits, pigs, ponies, and chickens! At camps we ride horses, feed animals, teach everyday care, cleaning, and so much more! They get to see rescues at all stages and learn the proper way to care and rehabilitate. Of course, we are never short on wildlife either! On 100 acres, we have the kids feed the catfish and look for deer, turkey, and herons as we go about our day.
Here at WarAngel Farms we believe in second chances. Not only for the animals that enter our care, but for people too. We are a part of the drug court community service, where men and women completing their rehabilitation can come do their projects and community service hours at the farm. We are also a part of dui court, mental health court, and veterans court. Not only can we help animals heal, but animals help people heal. We believe in sharing the blessings the farm can bring with who needs it most. We also love to help local women and children’s homes as well as other organizations giving everyone a chance to experience in the farm in an intimate setting.
While our focus is saving horses and donkeys from the slaughter pipeline, we are always bringing in rescues from other situations as well. Some rescues find forever homes, and some are sanctuary on the farm, but it’s always an adventure here! Every animal that is adopted through our farm, has a signed contract to return to the farm if any unprecedented situation occurs. Some animals have been abandoned and brought to the rescue; some we’ve had to go pick up from bad circumstances. We always help when we can. However, our hearts go towards the horses and donkeys in the slaughter pipeline. We rescue as many as we can, but with many of them coming here sick, we must quarantine them. While in quarantine, we work directly with our vet and farrier to make sure each animal is getting the care they need. This is the hardest part of the rescue for us. Many of our animals require special vet care when they first arrive, which we believe is worth it to get them to their forever homes! However, some require special feed, special hay, and expensive medicines as their previous homes have often neglected their care. This is where we could really use funding, set apart strictly for our quarantine period and rescues coming in. This year alone with the rescues we have faced milk leg, pneumonia, pregnant mares giving birth, colic, and so much more. We are seeking 5,000-10,000 to set aside for veterinary and special feed/hay requirements for our rescues.
Of course, we are forever grateful for any amount granted or donated to our farm. If you would like to see videos and more information on our farm and some of the rescues we have taken in, we would love for you to check out our website, www.warangelfarms.com or our Facebook www.facebook.com/warangelfarms .
Have a blessed day!
` Thank you,
Casey Henson
