Why Support Woodlands Garden

Free and open to the public 7 days a week, Woodlands Garden depends on your generous donations to preserve and maintain the property. When you support Woodlands, you are supporting:

Preservation...
Woodlands offers visitors vibrant color in every season, with native plants like hearts-a-bustin', trillium, and beautyberry.

Woodlands is an 8-acre urban sanctuary in Georgia's most densely populated city, Decatur. Visitors are treated to:

  • A diverse canopy of trees, including 3 Champion Trees, with species such as Bigleaf and Cucumber Magnolias, Devil’s Walking Stick, Sassafras, and Sourwood
  • A rich mixture of native Piedmont plants like Beautyberry, Hearts-A-Bustin’, and Solomon's Plume
  • A Heritage Garden with Dr. Morse’s original camellia collection (listed on Georgia's Camellia Trail)
  •  Morse Creek, a Chattahoochee River tributary
  • Clearly marked walking trails, educational signage, and plant labels

Education...

Local students read stories about the natural world on the Garden lawn.

Woodlands helps visitors learn about nature through:

  • Field trips for school-aged children to learn about Georgia's native ecosystems
  • Plant labels throughout the Garden (including native and ornamentals) to help visitors learn to identify them
  • Workshops led in every season for immersive learning about camellia grafting and propagation, native azalea cultivation, and bird identification, among other things

Engagement...

A young visitor is enchanted with tiny fairy houses created from all natural materials at Fairies in the Garden.

Woodlands hosts free events and programs year-round:

  • The Music in the Garden series featured 36 local acoustic artists in 2018
  • Weekly Yoga in Nature classes are led by certified yoga instructors in the Garden's outdoor Pavilion
  • Fairies in the Garden welcomed over 750 participants in 2018

In the Natural World!

Woodlands offers well-maintained paths for serene walks and contemplation.
