The Golden Blocks Project is a celebration through public art, of the rich cultural heritage of the area now known as the Laney Walker/Bethlehem Revitalization Area.  This area of Augusta was once known as the "Golden Blocks" and served as a parallel downtown for "non-whites" to thrive, not just survive during the age of segregation. The Greater Augusta Arts Council has partnered with the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History to shine light onto the archived stories of the Golden Blocks era that Museum staff have collected, by bring them out into public spaces in the Laney Walker and Bethlehem neighborhoods. We seek to further this project with more art, more poetry, more music, more dance, and more exploration of history in the public sphere.
