Ahimsa House helps human and animal victims of domestic violence in Georgia reach safety together.

As many as 50% of victims of domestic violence report that they delayed seeking safety out of concern for the welfare of their pet(s). Abusers may harm, or threaten to harm, pets in order to control their human victims, yet only 17% of domestic violence shelters nationwide can accommodate pets.

Ahimsa House seeks to remove this barrier to safety by providing temporary care for pets of any species while their owners seek safety from domestic violence. We provide routine and emergency vet care, housing for pets in a network of confidential foster homes and boarding facilities, animal transportation, legal advocacy, pet supplies, pet deposits, a 24-hour crisis line, a statewide outreach program, and much more, to help people and their pets reach safety together.

Thanks to your support, our services are available free of charge to survivors anywhere in Georgia that have pets of any species, breed, or number.
